Poetry Corner: Christmas is in The Air
BY GAVIN BOURKE
The air is so chilly and cold this time of year
sharp on the naked tongue
the dew drops frozen on the tips of the leaves
like icing sugar.
The moon cold in the deep black sky
the green grass crisp under the feet.
Cars go by in droves
their red taillights lighting up the cold air
like laser-beams.
They are starting to play
Christmas songs everywhere
which now feel unfamiliar
almost a year on
and a welcome change to the airwaves
full of joy and goodness
they seem wholly appropriate right now.
Folks are decorating their homes
the toy show has come and gone
and Santa is available in local shopping centres
for children eager to visit with their wish lists.
It really can only be
the start of the magical season
of Christmas
once again.
