Killian welcomes von der Leyen comments on border

The pledge made in the Dail by the President of the EU Commission, Ursula von der Leyen that there would never be a hard border on the island of Ireland was warmly welcomed by the Cathaoirleach of Meath Co Council, Cllr Nick Killian on Monday.

Cllr Killian was speaking at the EU Commission offices at Grange where councillors met to hold the monthly meeting of the council.

The last time the council met at the location was 10 years ago. Cllr Killian asked EU official at Grange, Pilar Fenandes to convey the council’s thanks to the EU president for her remarks.

In an address to councillors and EU staff the Cathaoirleach said that the work being done in the EU building in the heart of the Irish countryside was playing a crucial role in protecting the health of millions of Europe’s food consumers. He said that, ultimately, ensuring a high level of health protection and trust in the food chain from farm to fork was vitally important.
