The Kells Municipal District 2022 Pride of Place awards took place in The Headfort Arms Hotel in Kells on Wednesday, October 5, 2022.
Cathaoirleach of Kells Municipal District, Cllr. Eugene Cassidy commenced proceedings by welcoming the guests in attendance who represented the 45 applicant groups from Kells MD who took part in the initiative this year. Cllr. Cassidy thanked the groups for continuing its strong tradition of community development of volunteerism and community action. He congratulated all the participating groups on their achievements which demonstrated the real pride the people of Kells have in their district.
Director of Services for Kells MD, Mr. Dara McGowan also commended the hard work of the volunteers, he commented that the work that is carried out by the volunteers is invaluable and without it the work programme carried out by the Council in the area would be severely impacted.
The highlight of the night was the award of Volunteer of the Year to Pat Barron of Kells Community Allotments. Pat was described as someone who puts his community first before himself and his own needs.
His critical role in establishing and developing the allotment site will have a very positive impact for future generations for many years to come.
