Athboy psychologist launches children's book on anxiety tonight

Athboy based psychologist Dr Sarah Cassidy is launching her children’s book ‘Tired of Anxiety’in LMETB’s Further Education building, Kells Road, Athboy tonight at 7pm.

‘Tired of Anxiety – A Kid’s Guide to Befriending Scary Thoughts and Living your Life Anyway’ by Dr Sarah Cassidy and Dr Lisa Coyne aims to help children (age 7-11) to explore and treat their own anxiety.

The book is compiled using insight and feedback from children who attended weekly classes in LMETB, Athboy with local child and adolescent psychologist Dr Cassidy and clinical psychologist Dr Coyne.

“Children who attend my clinic have read this book and given me advice on whether or not they can actually understand the language and on what works for them,” comments Dr Cassidy. “We think that a lot of the messages given to children around this topic aren’t really all that helpful. We often tell children to stop feeling what they are feeling or to feel something different. This book aims to break down the modern scientific principles on what actually works for treating anxiety, in a language that a child can read and understand.”

Dr Coyne and Dr Cassidy applaud the efforts made by the staff of Athboy LMETB, who supported this mental health project when most of the country was closed due to Covid and therefore largely unable to address the mental health needs of children living in Ireland.

“We think the finished book is going to really help a lot of kids that might never have the resources to make it to private clinics, but who very likely experience anxiety and might just pick up this book.”

All are welcome to attend to book launch at 7pm in LMETB Further Education, Kells Road, Athboy C15 DK16, where Dr Cassidy will also be giving a short presentation on Anxiety in Children.
