Largely dry day but changeable over the coming days

Changeable and mostly unsettled conditions over the coming days. Near average temperatures. That's the latest weather outlook from the national weather forecaster.

Lingering overnight rain in the northeast will clear early this morning for a largely dry and bright start to the day. Showers will affect Connacht and Munster during the day, spreading into south Leinster this evening. Some of these will be heavy. Moderate southerly winds will develop, fresh along west and south coasts. Highest temperatures of 9 to 13 degrees.

Scattered showers at first tonight mixed with clear spells. Showers will die out overnight, becoming largely clear. Chilly, with a touch of frost in lows of 0 to 4 degrees. Mainly light southerly winds, with some patches of fog forming.

Tomorrow morning will be largely dry and bright after any mist or fog patches clear, with isolated showers. Rain will develop across Munster during the afternoon, spreading into Leinster during the evening, with scattered showers elsewhere. Highest temperatures of 8 to 11 degrees. Light easterly winds, a little breezier along southern and eastern coasts.

Rain continuing in the south and southeast on Wednesday night, gradually clearing into the Irish Sea overnight. Dry and clear spells elsewhere with scattered showers. Light to moderate northerly winds, possible windier in the east and southeast. Lowest temperatures generally between 1 and 5 degrees.

Thursday is forecast to be a mixed day of sunny spells and occasional showers for most areas. Cloudier however in Ulster with rain in the northeast. Highest temperatures of 8 to 11 degrees. Moderate westerly winds, fresher near coasts.

Lingering cloud and rain will eventually clear overnight on Thursday in the northeast with clear spells across the country, and scattered showers in Atlantic counties. Light to moderate westerly breezes. Lowest temperatures of 2 to 6 degrees.

Good sunny spells on Friday with passing showers, driest in the east of the country. Light to moderate southwest breezes. Feeling chilly with afternoon highs of 6 to 9 degrees. Friday night will be cold with a widespread frost likely in largely calm and clear conditions. Lowest temperatures of -1 to +3 degrees.

Becoming very breezy or windy on Saturday in strengthening southerly winds with a spell of persistent rain developing. Highs of 7 to 11 degrees. Becoming drier Saturday night as winds ease and clear spells and occasional showers develop.

Showery conditions expected on Sunday with some sunny spells in a moderate westerly airflow. Highs of 7 to 10 degrees.
