NECSL boys claim victory

The NECSL 2011 boys made a good start to their inter league campaign with an impressive 2-0 win over Dundalk.

The NECSL boys started the game extremely well and aided by a stiff breeze were on the front foot right from the word go.

Playing some eye-catching football at times the waves of attacks finally paid off when Killian Madden pounced in the box to finish off a flick on by Scott Williams from a NECSL corner midway through the first half. Dundalk to their credit were resilient in defence and also proved a handful on the break going forward.

Alex Brady who was captain for the day was excellent throughout the game and it was his direct running and dribbling skills that provided another opportunity for the clinical Killian Madden to double the NECSl lead just before the half time whistle.

Brady's cut back ball to the edge of the box was met by Madden's cool finish past the keeper. The first half ended 2-0 with many impressive displays. However a few to mention were Scott Williams at the back, Tadgh Flynn who was excellent, Killian Madden and Alex Brady.

The NECSL changed 8 players at half time and playing against the previously mentioned wind put in another solid half of football. Both sides had their moments in the second half and to be fair probably just cancelled each other out.

However the NECSL did have a Ciaran McMullen goal ruled out for a marginal offside. Again some impressive displays in the second half were from Senan Arkins in centre midfield along with Tadgh Moran. Noah Friel looked comfortable at the back and Ciaran McMullen was a handful up front.

Overall a very good start for the u-12s but the hope is there is more to come from this group.
