Duleek housing scheme for elderly residents officially opened by Housing Minister

A NEW social housing scheme of 22 units in Duleek specifically for the elderly and residents with limited mobility, was officially opened by Minister for Housing, Darragh O’Brien TD this week.

The scheme is managed by the North & East Housing Association (NEHA), an approved housing body which now manages a portfolio of 716 houses across 11 local authority areas in the east of the country including 185 homes in Meath.

The new homes have been designed specially to accommodate elderly residents and residents with limited mobility who have been drawn from the housing list of Meath County Council.

The development is located at Colliers Place, Abbey Road, Duleek. It comprises 18 one-bed and four two-bed bungalows which have been specially designed for older tenants and those with limited mobility.

John Cunniffe, chairperson of NEHA, said that the new units were an important addition to the housing stock in Co Meath: “These units are specially designed for older and less mobile residents who are sometimes overlooked in the national debate about housing. These homes all have universal access design. They are all A rated and the residents will enjoy a safe, secure home in a beautiful community setting here in Duleek.”

During his visit to Meath on Monday, Minister O’Brien officially marked the opening of:

18 homes at The Brambles, Longford Road, Duleek where €4.76m of Dept of Housing, Local Government and Heritage funding was provided and a further 21 homes at Staleen Park, Donore with €4.5m of Dept of Housing, Local Government and Heritage funding was provided.

“The completion of these 61 social homes means permanent, secure housing for families and individuals in Duleek and Donore, making a real difference to those people’s quality of life. It builds on the progress of 82 social homes being completed earlier this year in Meath – new builds that have become part of the permanent social housing stock. The Government remains focused on investing more in social and affordable housing and implementing measures to ensure housing is more affordable and accessible for the people of Meath.”

Overall, Meath Co Council has a target to provide 1,372 social homes between 2022 and 2026 through new-build construction activity.
