Council see light at the end of tunnel with LED replacement of old public lighting

Meath County Council had about 17,500 public lights which were non-Led but because of an upgrading project that number is now down to 11,500 and on the completion of the programme all lights will be led, an official has told councillors.

Martin Murray, Director of Services for Infrastructure, Project Management, People management and Development was replying to questions about public lighting from Sinn Fein Cllr Michael Gallagher. More work on this project would take place in March next year.

Separately, Independent Cllr Gillian Toole asked if the council intended approaching the owners of land zoned for economic development under the 2021-27 development plan. Councillors would be well aware of land that had been zoned for many years and had not been used for that purpose. She also asked a question about the Ratoath outer relief road and wondered what the projected e150,000 spend on that project was for. It was fantastic to see provision being made for the Ratoath cycleway network over the next three years.

Projected council spending on recreation and amenities was to be welcomed, she said. Fine Gael Cllr Yemi Adenuga has welcomed projected spending on active travel initiatives.
