Pedestrian crossing for busy roundabout

A NEW pedestrian crossing will be provided at the roundabout on the old Kells Road near the entrance to St Patrick's Classical School just weeks after a young boy was injured there.

At a meeting of Navan Municipal Council last week, Cllr Tommy Reilly raised the issue of a crossing and was told that a new temporary crossing using solar power would be installed without the need for digging up the road. The crossing would include a raised area.

A young boy suffered injuries when he was knocked down while crossing the road in the vicinity of the roundabout last month and Cllr Reilly had highlighted the dangers at the junction last July. He called for a pedestrian crossing near the Kells Road roundabout to facilitate students of St Patrick’s Classical School.

“We have young people coming from the school and coming into town from north Navan trying to cross the road and it is very dangerous. It is very busy with both cars and pedestrians,” he said.

At that meeting he had been told that crossing facilities would be considered there, as part of the provision of the new distributor road from Windtown, which will meet the Kells road in that location and Cllr Reilly said that would take too long.
