Wilkinstown amenity park and playground to open on Sunday

The new amenity park and playground in Wilkinstown will open to the public this Sunday, 16th October, with insurance issues that had prevented the facility from opening now resolved.

Work was completed during the summer but difficulties in obtaining insurance meant the Wilkinstown Community Centre (WCC) committee could not open immediately and once insurance was finally secured, a fundraising drive was launched to cover the €6,000 cost, which comes on top of annual buildings insurance of €4,000.

Tara Smith PRO of WCC said: "We are delighted to be finally opening our new four-acre amenity park and playground this Sunday. It has been a long road, from start to finish and with major insurance issues, we are beyond excited to take down the Harris fencing at long last and welcome everyone to our amazing outdoor area."

An open day to celebrate the long awaited opening of the park and playground will take place from 12pm to 3pm, including a performance from a children's magician at 1pm in the new community centre building.

"We have received some very generous donations from public entities and local businesses to help us pay the €6,000 insurance fee, along with amazing support from our local community through our online raffle with fantastic prizes to be won. The draw will take place on 29th October so there is still time for people to purchase tickets and help support our fundraising efforts to keep our amenity park and playground open for years to come.
