Excitement grips Duleek after news of €8.9m lottery win

The owner of a Duleek shop who sold Wednesday's mega lotto jackpot of €8.9 million says the news has brought a "great buzz" to the village.

The National Lottery confirmed the winning ticket was sold at Lowthe’s Londis shop in Duleek.

The owner of the ticket is yet to come forward to claim their prize.

Store owner Seamus Lowthe says he was completely shocked to get the call that his store sold the winning life-changing ticket:

“The first thing I did was check my own ticket as I did the Lotto on Wednesday night for the first time in a while. I was in complete shock when the local rep called me the following day to let me know we’d sold the winning ticket. We’re a local family run store, open 38 years and selling the Lotto 30 years and this is our first ever big win. It’s complete magic for us.”

"There is some buzz around this morning, it's some amount of money, life changing. Hopefully someone will check their ticket and make their way up to headquarters now and claim it."

Seamus says he is keen to find out who the lucky punter is. He added:

"Hopefully it's someone regular and who we know or someone who has a big family they can share it out with, hopefully they will put us out of our misery soon."

Staff member Ciara Kelly said she hopes she knows the winner but draws the line at the new millionaire hailing from Slane!!

"It has been so exciting, the speculation on who could have won it, we want it to be someone local, we want it to be someone that we know.

"People are saying it was somebody from Slane but we'd rather somebody from Duleek, they have more money than they need over there!"

The winning normal play ticket was sold on Saturday 1st October.

The Meath player is the eighth Lotto jackpot winner of 2022 following wins by players in Wexford, Mayo, Meath, Dublin, Kilkenny and Galway.
