Budget increase doesn't go far enough for carers says provider

Private HomeCare has welcomed the increase in home carers allowance in Budget 2023 which rises to €1,700 from €1,600, but say it doesn't go far enough to help with the associated costs.

Elizabeth Nicholson, Managing Director of Private HomeCare said:

"While it is a welcome acknowledgement of the importance of adequate resources for home carers, it is really only a minimal increase."

"It is also important to note that quite often people are unaware of the tax relief available to them for home care. It can make home care more affordable than people think. We have a calculator on our website at www.privatehomecare,com, but always recommend people check with Revenue also," said Ms Nicholson.

"The tax relief may reduce home care costs by as much as 40%. This relief is available to any member of the family, and can even be divided between two which is massively helpful for families mitigating caring costs," she added.
