TOP: Sisters of Mercy who served in Trim join the local nuns in bidding farewell to Sr Kathleen Lynam.Trim Parish recently bid farewell to Sr Kathleen Lynam, described as 'the Good Samaritan of Trim' who returns to her native Tullamore after 70 years of service.
A Mass of thanksgiving was celebrated in St Patrick’s Church, Trim on Monday 5th September, attended by parishioners who worked with Sr Kathleen, residents from Blackfriary and Griffin Park, as well as Sisters of Mercy who served previously in the parish.
During his homily, Fr Warren Collier spoke of Sr Kathleen’s generosity and dedication to the parish. He acknowledged her humility and openness to everyone, noting her service to the Society of St Vincent de Paul in Trim. “Anyone who came to her door,” he said, “found the words of the Gospel fulfilled – ask and you shall receive”.
Making a presentation to Sr Kathleen at the end of the Mass, Fr Paul Crosbie said the Tullamore native “worked silent miracles in this parish over these past 70 years, not least of all by her outreach to the poor, the wisdom of her advice, her commitment to the faith and the Christ-like goodness of her gentle, unassuming humanity”.
A reception took place afterwards in Trim Parish Centre.
