An evening with George Hamilton in Navan Library

Well-known sports commentator George Hamilton will be appearing in Navan Library on Thursday 8th September, 7.30pm where he will talk of his life and interesting times.

George, of course, recently published an autobiography - 'A Nation Holds Its Breath' - the title taken from those immortal words he uttered as David O'Leary stepped up to take that famous penalty against Romania in the penalty shoot-out in Genoa during the 1990 World Cup.

If O'Leary scored - which of course he did - Ireland were through to the quarter-finals of the World Cup, an unimaginable summit for a country that had never reached the finals before.

Hamilton, will no doubt, talk about those hazy, crazy days of summer when anything seemed possible for an Irish team under Jack Charlton.

No doubt also Hamilton will be willing to answer other questions people may have about his journey through Irish sport and his long career in broadcasting.

Hamilton is also something of a music aficionado as he presents a classical music show on Lyric FM. That too might be a point of interest for some.
