County Morgue to close for refurbishment

The County Morgue at Our Lady's Hospital, Navan is closed until November for refurbishment.

Our Lady’s Hospital has received €800,000 from HSE Estates for the refurbishment of the mortuary in the hospital.

The County Morgue, which is on the hospital site, will be closed until November and during this period the service will be diverted to a local operator. A spokesperson for the Irish East Hospital Group said the hospital is working with all the relevant stakeholders to make sure the service continues uninterrupted until November.

Local funeral director Padraig Fitzsimons said he hoped the morgue would be brought up to standard.

"It is the same as it was 30 years ago. I would be concerned however, that if the closure goes on too long that there will be delays in post mortems and longer waits for families," he said.
