Blackhall best in the rain

"Two out of three ain't bad" Meatloaf sang and this evening Blackhall Gaels can reflect on that assertion with some satisfaction after they defeated Boardsmill 0-17 to 1-7 at Rathmolyon in a SHC clash played in wet conditions.

This was the Gaels' second victory of the campaign from three outings and it was - as the scoreline suggests - well deserved too.

They led 0-10 to 0-5 and never really looked like they might lose this one despite Boardsmill scoring the only goal of the game in the second-half with Fergal Flattery finding the net from with a long-range effort.

Dermot Carty was in fine form for the Gaels capping his evening with a hefty contribution of 10 points, six frees.

Stephen Morris, Johnny Meyler, Conor Burke and Tom Delaney were others who contributed to the victory.

Boardsmill were unable to make sustained impact. They all too often took the wrong option and suffered from turnovers.

Their less then memorable evening included a red card for Jim Roche at the end of the contest that was played in ceaseless rain.
