The Navan O'Mahonys players after their great victory.

Significent success for the boys in the blue and white hoops

There was a notable success for the Navan O'Mahonys club when they defeated Summerhill 1-14 to 2-7 in the u-15 FL Div 2 League final last week.

This was a game the winners had to work hard to achieve but they did just that - and in some style too.

The O’Mahonys boys started well with a couple of early points from Rian Porter and Cormac Nugent.

Summerhill came into the game with two points and took the lead when a 45 dropped short and was sent to the net. Their lead was short lived with three points in four minutes from O’Mahonys with Patrick Yourell also finishing a great move to the net.

In the run up to the break both teams added to their points total with scores coming from Rian Porter and Hugh Clarke Carolan for the Brews Hill side. O’Mahonys went into the break leading 1-8 to 1-5.

Summerhill got the best possible start to the second half with a goal to draw level. However Patrick Yourell scored the next two points for O’Mahonys but again Summerhill proved that they weren’t going to let O’Mahonys pull clear with two converted frees of their own again drawing level with 12 minutes to go.

With the game now in the balance Jamie O’Reilly, Patrick Yourell and Rian Porter kicked points from play in a three minute spell which proved to be winning of the game. Summerhill pushed forward in waves in search of scores but some resolute O’Mahonys defending kept them out. With the clock gone past the 30 minute mark O’Mahonys broke forward and Cormac Nugent scored the insurance point with the last kick of the ball.

The final score, coincidently, was the exact same score when the two sides met in the opening day of the league.
