Closure fears for Navan Soup Kitchen due to increased demand and rocketing costs

Navan's Soup Kitchen, which provides between 500 and 700 hot meals to the needy each week, could be forced to close due to increased demand and mounting costs.

The lack of fundraising during the Covid pandemic, rising food prices and increased demand on the service has seen the organisation rack up debt, which could see the Brews Hill venue in Navan closing.

Now founder Mark O'Neill is appealing for donations to keep the premises open and to enable the charity continue delivering food parcels to Meath families.

The Soup Kitchen charity will be nine-years-old this year and has been operating in Navan for the past six years.

In its nine years in existence it has provided just short of 6,500,000 meals to households in the north east through their food parcels as well as providing hot meals in its soup kitchens. The soup kitchens in Drogheda and Dundalk have closed recently, but the Navan and Balbriggan kitchens are still operating for now.
