Farmer ‘looking forward’ to cross-country trek

A Mountnugent farmer will walk close to 600 kilometres in support of the Eden Heaslip inspired 'Be Buddies, Not Bullies' campaign and the Moylagh JFK 50 Mile Challenge's chosen charities, arriving in Mizen, Co Cork from Malin, Co Donegal, on the same day as his 25th wedding anniversary.

Martin Sheridan has already completed the Moylagh JFK 50 Mile Challenge (June 11), and will begin his Mizen to Malin, starting this Saturday, July 16, and hoping to complete the journey by Sunday, July 24.

Martin is even adding to the usual route by detouring for a night's stay in Killarney. "It's a great spot, a lovely town," says the dad-of-two - Michael (22) and Thomas (19).

In 2018, Martin walked as far as Sneem, and his only "regret" is he "didn't go the whole way. But I'll go the whole way this time."

The manager at Kiernan's farms adds: "I'm looking forward to it. It'll be grand. It's good for the mind. I love it. I can't wait for next week."

Incredibly, when Martin arrives as planned at Mizen Head, it'll coincide with his silver wedding anniversary.

He further states of his two chosen causes: "It's just a good thing. In this day and age, there are so many problems. I'd hope to raise awareness and maybe help a few people as well."

Martin will launch an online donation page to support his fundraising efforts in the coming days.
