Kennedy Road works to begin next week

Work on the new bus interchange at Kennedy Pace in Navan will begin next Monday, with part of Kennedy Road becoming one way only for the duration of the work.

A temporary traffic management plan will be in place from Monday for a 12 week period.

Kennedy Road will become one way from the entrance to the Kennedy Place car park to the Paddy O’Brien Street junction with a single traffic lane towards Trimgate Street.

A pedestrian route from the shopping centre entrance on Paddy O’Brien Street to the top of the taxi rank will be maintained.

The temporary traffic management plan also includes temporarily restricting right turn movements for vehicles exiting from the Paddy O’Brien Street onto Kennedy Road, and a temporary restriction on left turning movements from Trimgate Street onto Kennedy Road.

Access to the Kennedy Place car park area will be via the Abbey Road roundabout at the Post Office.

The Contract three works of the Navan 2030 scheme which begin next week, will provide a bus interchange facility on Kennedy Road, will facilitate public transport network enhancements and provide a significant public realm upgrade for the town.

The initial works will take place on Kennedy Road along the footpath adjacent to the Shopping Centre from the Paddy O’Brien Street junction to the Shopping Centre car park exit adjacent to the Post Office.

The construction of the new taxi rank on Abbey Road is expected to be complete towards the end of this month and on completion, the Council intends to revoke the status of the Kennedy Road taxi rank, and designate a new taxi stand/rank on Abbey Road.

At this stage, the Kennedy Road taxi rank will be closed off to facilitate further works in this location and to restore two-way traffic on the road and the new rank on Abbey Road will be operational. A public signage and advertising campaign will be implemented in advance.

Meanwhile, an out-of-hours temporary road closure is planned for Abbey Road from the Fire Station junction to the

Watergate Street junction to facilitate road upgrade works, from Monday 18th until Friday 29th of July during the hours of 7pm to 7am each day.

Access for deliveries and local access will be maintained and the contractor is currently exploring

opportunities to reduce the time period required for the temporary closure to four or five nights, commencing on the 18th of July.

Watermain upgrade works commenced on Market Square from AIB to the Metges laneway entrance today for a period of up to six weeks. This will include narrowing of the road carriageway width to facilitate the works.

An area on in the Kennedy Place car park and part of the pedestrian area on the upper level on Kennedy Road has been fenced off this week to facilitate construction of a manhole and associated drainage works. It is anticipated the works in this will take two to two and a half weeks to complete.
