Mobile phone charging points ‘needed in town’

Meath County Council will look at the possibility of providing a number of mobile phone charging points around Navan.

Cllr Alan Lawes proposed the provision of a small number of mobile phone charging points in the town for emergencies.

“When a mobile phone battery dies, you cannot even ring 999. We have free WiFi in the town, but it is no good, if your phone isn't working.

“Charging points would be a big help to young people leaving nightclubs in need of help.

“I cannot imagine it would be too costly,” he said.

Cllr Tommy Reilly seconded the proposal. They were told Meath County Council does not have funding or resources allocated for such facilities, at present, but will research further the viability and costs of placing charging points in Navan town.
