Maguire claims silverware in sunny Spain

Eddie Maguire who lives just outside Navan claimed silverware when he finished second in the Spanish Blind Golf Open at Centro Nacional de Golf in Madrid.

Maguire was one of four Irish players competing in Spanish Open for blind and visually impaired golfers.

Maguire joined other members of the Irish Blind Golf team including captain Pat Morgan Jnr, Paddy Power and Adrian Downey. The team was accompanied by their guides, Pat Morgan Snr, Davey Barden, Pat Cockburn and Tommy Geraghty.

Eddie recalled afterwards some experiences from his time performing in the Open including moments of humour.

"There were huge pics of renowned golfer Jon Rahm Rodriguez, one nearly 100ft high and they were all over the golf course.

"My guide,Tommy Geraghty from Duleek joked that Rahm winked at us as we passed one of the pictures!" It was one of the lighter moments in the white heat of competition.

Maguire formerly played senior football for Mayo, Carlow and Meath but he has turned to golf and performed consistently well in various visually impaired competitions.
