Driver gets fifth driving disqualification

A 30-year-old man who has 69 previous convictions and has been disqualified four times in the past appeared at Trim District Court charged with driving without insurance, having false documents, and gave a false name and address to Gardai.

He was Jamie Murray with an address at Ard na Mara, Kilcoole, Co Wicklow admitted the charges which related to incidents on 1st June last year.

Court Presenter Sergeant Tom Mahon said that Garda Lorna Reilly stopped the car on the M3 at Cookstown, Dunshaughlin. The defendant gave the name of his uncle instead of his own. Sergeant Mahon listed some of defendant’s previous convictions – 2019 theft (150 hours community service); 2018 theft; 2013 attempted robbery (five years imprisonment); 2017 threatening to kill. He had also been convicted of driving without insurance and had been disqualified from driving for periods of five years, seven years and 25 years.

Defending solicitor Dermot Monahan said that his client had driven his mother to Cavan to see a dying relative. He had panicked and given his uncle’s name.

Judge John O’Leary sentenced defendant to three months in prison, fined him E300 and disqualified him for four years.
