Consultation on proposed offshore wind farm

A public consultation meeting on plans by SSE Renewables for an offshore windfarm off the coasts of Meath, Louth and Dublin takes place in the Village Hotel, Bettystown, on Tuesday, 31st May from 4pm to 6pm.

Similar meetings are taking place on Tuesdday 24th May in Clogherhead Community Centre and Wednesday, 25th May at Balbriggan Clubs Community Centre as part of the three-week public consultation period on the plans.

Members of the project team will also host an online information session on 1st June from 7-8pm.

The proposed Braymore Wind Park is located off the east coast of Ireland between Dunany Point in County Louth and Braymore Point in County Dublin. SSE Renewables has secured a Foreshore Licence to facilitate surveys of the seabed at the site.

Once operational, the company says the Braymore Wind Park would be capable of generating up to 1GW of renewable energy, powering approximately over 1 million homes and businesses annually while offsetting over 1 billion kgs of carbon emissions.

A multi-million Euro Community Benefit Fund will also be attached to Braymore Wind Park.

The proposed Braymore Wind Park is comprised of three major components: offshore infrastructure; onshore grid infrastructure and operations and maintenance facility. SSE Renewables, a leading developer, owner and operator of renewable engergy is propsing a capital investment of up to 2.5 billion to develop Braymore Wind Park. The company says there will be significant employment opportunities to support the day-to-day running of the windfarm, sustained over the operational life of the windfarm.

Representatives from SSE Renewables will be on-hand at the meeting to discuss project proposals and answer questions from the public on the proposed wind farm. The in-person exhibitions and online webinar will offer members of the community a complete overview of the project. A full digital brochure and feedback form as well as details of how to register for the webinar are available via www.sserenewables.com/braymorewindpark

As part of the public consultation process, the SSE Renewables stakeholder engagement team will work with local communities and stakeholders to gather and record feedback and local information that will inform the project.

Martin Sweeney, Lead Project Manager for SSE Renewables said: “We look forward to engaging in-person with communities in County Dublin, Louth and Meath on the proposed Braymore Wind Park. It is really important that local stakeholders get an opportunity to engage directly and share their views on the projects ahead of us submitting consent applications to the Maritime Area Regulatory Authority (MARA) and An Bord Pleanála in 2023 and 2024 which will allow the projects to proceed.

“Our dedicated project team, website, in-person and virtual events will offer a variety of ways for stakeholders to learn more about the project and to arrange meetings with the project team, and to provide feedback to us.”
