Mya Doocey of Navan Road Club just gets the better of Cuchulainn's Rhiannon Dolan in the u-16 Leinster Road Race.

Young Navan cyclists make their mark

Talented young cyclists, Joseph Mullen and Mya Doocey from the Navan Road Club, displayed some fine form in various events over the last week or so.

Mullen, who is an u-16 cyclist, found the roads of Dundalk to his liking, where last week he posted three wins in the town. Following on from his solo win in the first round of The Bike Station Summer Cycling, he was moved back a group for the second round.

However this made little difference as once again he was the first rider across the white line on Thursday night. Then on Saturday and Sunday, Cuichulainn CC co-hosted the underage Leinster Championships and Mullen cleaned up in the u-16 road race and time trial winning both.

The 47km route for the second round of the league, which started at the Fane Bridge and finished close to Dorian's Pub outside Kilsaran, saw some very fast racing, with the scratch group averaging 44km per hour for the race.

Despite this high speed, the scratch group did not manage to close the gap to the front and it was Mullens secnd win in as many weeks, with Armagh Down's Don Harte in second and Niall Browne of Drogheda Wheelers in third.

The support race was won by local undrage rider Eoin Homes, beating out two Carrickmacross riders, Aidan Leonard and Darren Kane, into second and third place respectively.

Over last weekend the Cuhculainn hosted the underage Leinster Road and Time Trial Championships alongside White River Wheelers of Dunleer. In the time trial event the club managed a number of medals with Callum Mc Caffrey taking the gold in the u-15 boys race .

Fionn Dolan and Grace O'Rourke claimed silver and bronze in the u-14 girls event, while Rhiannon Dolan got the bronze in the u-16 girls race. In the road race. Dolan came within inches of winning the gold when she was just beaten by Doocey who put in a storming display to claim victory.
