Waller Cup heads west as Feeney tops the pile

Large crowds gathered for the local Waller Cup races in what was glorious weather in Bohermeen.

With over 100 entries for the youth races and over 300 for the senior races there was a competitive day of racing.

The main race was a combination of the A1 andA2 races, over a distance of 115km, with Roscommon man Daire Feeney from All Human Revolution sprinting away from a six man break to win the Waller Cup from local Moynalty man Luke Smith.

Team mate of Smith, Fergus Keogh took first in the A2 race winning the Thomas Tuite Perpetual Cup.

The junior race was won by Travis Harness of VC Glendate, winning Jack McGlew Plate, with the winner of the Michael McGuire Memorial Cup (A3) Jason Howick travelling from Bray to claim the honours.

The ladies race was a close three way sprint with Aoife O’Brien from Torelli ,and riding with the Irish Junior team, winning the sprint from Darcey Harkness. Former Olympian Annalise Murphy (unattached) put in a tremendous effort to claim third place.

In the underage races, the under-16 Boys race for the Tossie and Nancy Casserly Memorial Cup went up North to Seth Dunwoody from Orchard CC.

In under-16 Girls event Navan girl Myna Doocey was first on the podium from Aliyah Rafferty of Island Wheelers. The Boys under-12 race went to Dennis Lynch (Sliabh Luachra CC) and he took home the won Eugene, Bernard & Liam McLoughlin Memorial Cup, with Bohermeen club man Eoin Davis claiming third with his clubmate Lily Reilly claiming third in under-12 girls.

Other Bohermeen riders that competed were Jamie Fitzpatrick, Craig Ennis, Senan Traynor and Kevin Reilly (all under-12), Cian English (under-14), Sophie English and Cillian Owens (under-16), Ryan Walsh (Junior), Paul English and Ramanus Meskauskas (A3)
