Kildalkey kick off centenary celebrations in style

The Castle Arch Hotel in Trim was hopping last month as Kildalkey opened their centenary celebrations in style with the presentation of championship and league medals to their successful 2021 teams.

The club won the Meath SHC Jubilee Cup in 2021, for the sixth time and the fifth since 2009, as well as being the inaugural winners of the Billy Byrne Cup for the Intermediate League. A special place of honour on the night was reserved for the Team of 1971 who annexed the Meath Intermediate Hurling crown and promotion to senior ranks which they have retained ever since.

The club also presented their annual Player of the Year, Special Achievement and Hall of Fame awards along with a special presentation to the retiring Camogie chairperson Mary O’Halloran by players Caoimhe Bird and Rachael Browne.

Chairman Tosh Brady presented members of the 1971 team with specially branded hurleys with each individuals name embossed on the handle.

Brady also presented special awards to Conor Fitzgerald and Niall McNally for winning u-21 B All-Ireland Hurling medals with Meath and Brian O'Halloran who won Leinster and All-Ireland MFC medals.

MC Frank Dempsey introduced the Hall of Fame recipient Val Ledwith.
