Cannistown junction delays highlighted

Traffic tail backs on the Borallion and the Cannistown Road in Navan were highlighted by Cllr Tommy Reilly at a meeting of Navan Municipal Council last week.

Cllr Reilly called on the Council to make a slip road available beside The Willows Restaurant, Kilcarn for traffic exiting from the Cannistown Road onto the Dublin Road.

Cllr Reilly said there can be long queues of cars waiting to get out onto the old Dublin Road at that junction.

“Morning and evening you see traffic backed up on the Cannistown Road and the Borallion. “Most of the traffic is heading into Navan but traffic turning for Dublin has to wait and this is causing the congestion. “The council owns land there and a slip road would ease the congestion,” he said.

He was told the junction in question is not suitable for an extra lane due to the proximity of other roads and the the R-147 slip road onto the M3.

A request has been forwarded to the Council's Transportation Design Team to assess the junction for other options, which would be reported back on, at a later date.
