Big break beckons for Cosy Corner team

The Cosy Corner is a well know hostelery in Athboy and the pub's pool team is on the cusp of making a very big breakthrough - although they face strong opposition in their quest to achieve their ambition.

On Saturday night they take the Balreask B team in the Div 2 final of the Meath Pool League at Ollie's Bar in Athboy.

It's an encounter that has whipped up plenty of interest around the town too and there is sure to be plenty of spectators looking to get a slice of the action when the contest gets underway at around 7pm.

Reaching the final is the culmination of a long journey for the Cosy Corner team as one of their players, Cillian Maguire, points out.

"We entered the Meath Pool League for the first time in 2019 and we have reached the league final in our first season in the league which has been a great achievement," he says.

"The league started at the end of 2019 but due to Covid restrictions, it had to be postponed a few times in the last couple of years. The final is on Saturday in Ollie's and everyone is welcome to watch the match. It should be a great night."

Members of the Cosy Corner team have also made an impact in other ways.

"As well as our success in the team event over the last two years, we have also had great success in the singles competition," added Maguire.

"Two of our players, Gary Ennis and Fintan Brady, have reached the semi-finals of the Division 2 knock-out singles competition. We are hoping that both players can make it to the final and this would really cap a fantastic first season for the pool team."

" A big thank you to our sponsors, The Cosy Corner Pub, Higgins Potatoes and McGourty Electrical Services, for sponsoring our new pool tops for the final. Also a special mention to Aidan and Mary Bagnall in the Cosy Corner for supporting the team over the last few years."

So all is set for a big showdown on Saturday and a chance for the Cosy Corner side to make the big breakthrough.
