Navan side turn on the style

Rossin Rovers4

This turned out to be a 10-goal thriller in Claremont Stadium with Rossin taking a quick lead and having the better of the opening exchanges.

Lauren Sugrue and Rachel Casserly netted two apiece for Parkvilla while Alex Cleary and Lucie Larkin also found the target.

The game began to turn in Parkvilla’s favour and they stormed into a 5-1 lead with 10 minutes of the first half remaining.

Rossin came back with a never-say-die attitude and scored from a penalty. They also finished to the net from set piece inside the Parkvilla area.

The second half was a much tighter affair in which the goalmouth action was kept to a minimum with Parkvilla scoring from a superb strike from captain Lucy Larkin.

Rossin kept going until the end and nearly got something out of the game. This was a rousing win for Parkvilla and their manager Eric Power.

Player of the game for Parkvilla was Alex Cleary.

Duleek3

Duleek's assignment in the Women's NEFL proved very producted when they defeated Ardee 3-0 away from home.

These two newly-formed teams took on each other in Ardee and the home side showed great promise from the first tip off with Nadine Hoey unleashing a shot towards goal.

Duleek, managed by Leanne Gaughran, hit back with a cross from Shauna Leech out on the right wing resulting in Megan De Souza knocking the ball into the bottom right corner of the net with just nine minutes played.

Ardee kept fighting with plenty of attempts of a goal. Samantha McCarron showed promise and put Duleek goalkeeper Leanne Gaughran under pressure and she was called on to make four saves in as many minutes.

Leah Martin for Duleek shot just wide while Ardee pressed with five more attempts before half-time with Hoey and Lisa Birmingham taking shots which were saved by the Duleeks 'keeper. At half-time it stayed 1-0.

Early in the second-half Duleek's Sharon Lyons assisted De Souza to net her second goal. Ardee took a free kick just outside the box with the Duleek keeper saving well. Duleek's De Souza then won a penalty but the shot fired over the crossbar.

There were a few more attempts from Ardee but the last goal of the game went to Duleek's Kristina Habravan with a great corner cross from Leech. Habravan chested it into the back of the net. A great game from both sides and amazing to watch these two newly formed teams play together

Torro Ladies travelled to Monasterboise with confidence after their win last week, but were shaken up straight away from the kick off.

Albion registered their first goal within the first two minutes after a mix up in the Torro defence. The goal unsettled the Navan side and they lost their focus. Albions’ secondgoal came in the 3rd minute, and their fourth came in the seventh – as Torro wildly tried to get some sort of handle on the game.

Four minutes later, the Louth side scored their fourth. From the 20th minute, Torro found their feet and started to play their game. Clodagh Carroll lofted a ball from the midway point over Albions’ back four and the onrushing Leah Rodgers slotted the ball away neatly into the bottom left-hand corner.

Most of the play from then on was concentrated in the middle of the pitch as both teams scrapped for possession.

There were a few chances for both sides, but none were taken. On the 32nd minute, Shannon Connelly put a through ball past the Albion’s left back, and Abby Matthews, who must have covered every blade of grass on the pitch, took on everybody in front of her and unleashed an unstoppable shot into the Louth net.

The two goals seemed to revive the confidence of the Navan girls, but it was shortlived. Albion scored two more, the last one a well-taken free kick into the roof of Jen Hegarty’s net. In what was a very physical game, the neutral would say that Albion deserved their win; in truth, the Navan girls really never got over the three early goals, and their mistakes certainly played a part in their own downfall.

Player of the game for Torro – Abby Matthews.
