Contract signing allows for work on new Ashbourne cycleway to get underway

Contracts have been signed for the new R135 Cycle Network Scheme Ashbourne – Northern Section.

Works on the 2km stretch, located to the north of Ashbourne town centre, from Dunnes Stores to the Pillo Hotel roundabout will include the upgrade of underground utilities and public lighting, the reconfiguration of the carriageway with the installation of new footpaths and cycle tracks.

New traffic signals will be installed along the R135 at the Ballybin, Castle Street and St John's Wood junctions. There are also two toucan crossings proposed to the north and south ends of the proposed works. The works will be delivered in seven separate phases in order to minimise disruption in the area with Phase 1 starting at Dunnes Stores.Works are due to commence on Monday, April 11th and will last for approximately 65 weeks.
