Vikki Wall

Others could follow Meath star on Aussie adventure

The coming months look like they could be the last we'll see of Vikki Wall in a Meath jersey - for the foreseeable future at least.

The 2021 Meath Chronicle Sports Personality of the Year award winner is, according to all reports, set to move to Australia to to pursue a career in the AFLW - and others could follow.

A few years ago it emerged there was intense from certain sources in Australia in signing Wall - and yesterday Meath manager Eamonn Murray indicated she could be set to make the move Down Under in September.

"Of course that’s going to happen," he said, without being able to give any specifics to the claim.

"That is going to happen, yeah. I’d say we’re losing Vikki now in September and I don’t know how many more we’ll lose. I don’t know why you’d want to play that sport because it’s dreadful stuff to watch. I can’t understand it. There’s no skill at all."

Wall won a string of awards after helping Meath claim the All-Ireland Ladies SFC title last September with a sensational victory over Dublin.

The Dunboyne player put series of outstanding performances and now it seems, the Aussie are ready to swoop.

There is also speculation that they were keenly interested in signing players like Emma Duggan one of the finest young footballers in the country.

They could also have their sights sets on other players on the Meath team.

However, the loss of Wall and Duggan would be a huge blow to the Royals in the longer term - leaving Murray with a real problem.

"Oh huge," Murray said. "Can’t do anything about it, but that’s the problem we have. She’s getting a good contract I’m sure over there, plus she’s good at talking Irish and all that stuff. I don’t begrudge it to her like."
