Council says fuel crisis will impact roadworks programme

With the fuel crisis having a major impact on all sectors, local authorities are also facing uncertainty over the financial implications to its budgets and planned programme for the year.

A spokesperson for Meath County Council said like all corporate bodies, the Council is "reviewing the immediate and potential future impact of the rising costs of fossil fuels on their organisation and specifically our annual service plan".

"The current impact not only affects our fleet management costs but has a direct impact on our planned annual roadworks programme. To mitigate this impact a 10 per cent reduction associated to specific elements of the roadworks programme is built into our procurement process.

"Following the completion of the procurement process, the real impact of the rising cost of fuel will be known."
