Sad day for Bective Stud and Cullentra House at Cheltenham

There was heartbreak for the Cullentra Stables and Bective Stud at Cheltenham today as Ginto was fatally injured in the Albert Bartlett after pulling up quickly before the last.

The Elliott trained fancy was the fourth horse to died at this year's festival following the death of Shallwehaveonemore, Mindsmadeup and Born Patriot.

Ginto enjoyed a short, but successful career winning four of his previous five outing including the Lawlor's of Naas Novice Hurdle and the Navan Novice Hurdle.

Second was Elliott's lot again in the opener today as Fil Dor was two and half lengths behind the unstoppable Willie Mullins in the Triumph Hurdle

Elliott also saddled Pied Piper to claim third, just a neck further back.

Noel Meade's Lunar Power was eighth.

Mullins again won the County Hurdle with state Man as Lorna Fowler finished best of the local trainers with Colonel Mustard taking third, three lengths behind the winner.

Gavin Cromwell's My Mate Mozzie was eighth while Felix Daisy was 10th, Call Me Lyreen was 14th Top Bandit was 19th and Eclair De Beaufeu was 22nd for Elliott with Noel Meade 17th with Jesse evans, while Cask Mate fell two out.

There was heartbreak for Elliott and his team in the Albert Bartlett as the much fancied Ginto pulled up quickly before the last when prominent and subsequently died.

John McConnell's Bardenstown Lad was nine and a quarter lengths back in third behind the winner The Nice Guy.

Another of Elliott's fancied stable stars Galvin had to settle for fourth in the Gold Cup as Rachael Blackmore made history again to win the feature race of the festival on board A Plus Tard.

Mighty Stowaway was third in the Hunters Chase for Elliott and there was still no luck for the Summerhill man in the Mares Chase as Mount Ida finished seventh and last behind Elimay.

Even in the last race Elliott had to settle for the minor placings with Hollow Games taking third in the Conditional Jockeys Handicap behind Joseph O'Brien's Banbridge, but all his thoughts were with Ginto and his connections.
