Trim students share virtual lessons with Michigan ‘twins’

It’s a first for the pupils of Scoil Mhuire, Trim as they recently became the first school in the Boyne Valley to be matched up for joint virtual classes with a high school in Boyne City, Michigan as part of the successful twinning project between the two regions.

Their teacher Micheal Kerr is part of the twinning committee and when he asked his school if they would like to take part they were very happy to be the volunteer group to trial the classes as part of the twinning education programme.

The Zoom classes cover various topics from culture to hobbies and the feedback from the experience has been very positive from both sides.

It is envisaged to roll the programme across both Boyne valleys from September this year and secondary schools interested in being paired up with a Michigan school should contact Trim Tourism Network to enlist and learn how it works.

There is also a pen pal programme for primary schools which is being established at the moment. Other twinning programmes planned will involve travel and tourism, business and trade and culture and heritage.

There will be a website launched this year as a platform for all information regarding the twinning project and the current facebook page is @twinboynevalleys.
