McDermott's men outgun O'Mahonys

Keegan Cup holders Wolfe Tones got their A FL Div 1A encounter off to flying start when they defeated Navan O'Mahonys 1-14 to 0-6 at Gibbstown today.

This was the first time the Navan side made the short trip out to play in Wolfe Tone's new pitch at Gibbstown and it didn't turn out to be very memorable occasion for them as they lost out to their craftier, more experienced opponents.

Micheal McDermott led the Tones to a Keegan Cup success last year and he's once more in charge.

There was never going to be much doubt that his team would win this encounter.

O'Mahonys led 0-7 to 0-3 at the interval and in the second-half Fiachra Ward powered through for a brilliant individual goal that sealed the Navan side's fate.

Cian Ward showed the way for the winners with eight points. Brian O'Hanlon lofted over two points for O'Mahonys while Cathal Smith, Brian O'Hanlon, Jack McCormack, Aodhan Mallon and Shane McCarthy also raised white flags.
