Sadness in north Meath following death of popular local man in weekend road collision

The North Meath community is reeling following the death of a local man in a fatal collision in the early hours of Sunday morning.

Shay Reilly, who was in his sixties, was the driver and sole occupant of the car which was involved in a single vehicle collision at Robertstown, Kilmainhamwood, at around 12.25am on Sunday morning. He was taken to Our Lady's Hospital, Navan, where he was pronounced dead. It is understood Mr Reilly had been returning from his elderly parents home at the time. Gardai in Navan are investigating the collision and have appealed for any witnesses to come forward.

Local councillor Paul McCabe said: “On behalf of the local community in north Meath, I express my condolences to his wife Rose, parents Eamonn and Sue, his sisters and brother, and his friends and neighbours on this terrible tragedy.

“I knew Shay personally, he was a very decent and very friendly man.”

Predeceased by his brothers Joe and Gerard, and his nephew Cathal, Shay is survived by his wife Rose, parents Eamon and Sue, sisters Mary Dunne and Anne Brady, brother Eamon, sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, nephews, nieces, grandnieces, relatives and a wide circle of friends.

He will be reposing at Fox’s Funeral Home, Navan, on Wednesday from 4pm to 7pm with removal to the Church of the Nativity, Kilbeg for 8pm. Funeral Mass is onThursday at 11am with burial afterwards in Staholmog Cemetery.
