Meath sports clubs and organisations to share €6.2m in Capital Sports Grants

Unprecedented funding is on its way to sports clubs and organisations in Meath with the news that the Sports Capital Funding allocations have been announced this morning.

Locally in Meath, over €6.2million has been awarded to clubs across the county. The allocation today represents huge increases in previous rounds of funding.

Welcoming the funding, local TD and EU Minister Thomas Byrne said: “This is fantastic news for our communities the length and breadth of the Royal County – investment in our Sports clubs means real and meaningful investment in our children, young people and athletes.

“This funding will go a long way to meet the growing demands of our sports clubs and organisations. I want to sincerely congratulate all of the successful Meath clubs who will benefit from this huge of allocation of funding which will improve the facilities available to our communities – both young and old across county Meath.

This is the largest sports capital grant in the history of the State, worth €150 million with more than 1,900 clubs and schools to benefit from capital grants to build new sporting facilities or upgrade existing ones. Every county will see projects being funded.

Thirty-five sports will benefit. GAA, rugby and soccer will be major recipients as will minority sports including tennis, kayaking, boxing, cricket and wheelchair activities.
