Red cards complete miserable day for Royals

Another Sunday. Another defeat for Meath.

The hopes harboured by Meath supporters their team would get back to winning ways after the humiliation in Galway last week were dashed when they were defeated 1-11 to 1-15 by Roscommon in the NFL Div 2 at Pairc Tailteann today.

Trailing 1-3 to 1-12 at the interval, after facing into a stiff breeze, Meath were unable to haul back the visitors.

The frantic closing stages of the game included plenty of talking points with Meath player James McEntee, and manager Andy McEntee, both shown red cards.

It was a messy end to a bad day at the office for the Royals who led only briefly. That was in the opening half when in the eighth minute Mathew Costello found the net.

That put Meath 1-1 to 0-2 in front but soon after Roscommon took control and fired over a series of points with players such as Conor Cox, Enda Smith, Eddie Nolan and Cathal Heneghan all contributing scores.

Heneghan was also in the right place at the right time to score his team's goal.

Two of Meath's opening half scores came from goalkeeper Harry Hogan who converted frees with Thomas O'Reilly also splitting the posts from a free. The home team's cause wasn't helped in the opening half when Robin Clarke picked up a black card.

Morris (five), Eamon Wallace (two) and Harkin registered points for Meath in the second-half but they were mere consolations on another bad day at the office for the Royals.
