Council co-operation begins with east meath clean-up
A MAJOR clean up of the East Meath and Drogheda area will take place in March as co-operation between Meath and Louth councils increases.
Following a joint meeting of the Laytown/Bettytown Municipal Council and Borough District of Drogheda, the Drogheda Spring Clean Weekend will take place from Friday 4th to Sunday the 6th of March.
Cllr Elaine MCGinty said: “The joint meeting touched on a lot of areas that effect both county councils and districts but more importantly, it has helped to reinforce the opportunities that come by working together. For the last number of weeks, I have been working with Meath and Louth county councils on getting a visible and practical initiative off the ground.”
“Louth and Meath county councils are coming together in a joint initiative which I hope will see not just a cleaner environment but be the start of something bigger for the development of both communities.
“Both councils are inviting all resident associations, community group, schools, sporting organisations, an individual or a few neighbours working together, to get involved in the Drogheda Spring Clean weekend.
“We are looking for people to tackle a kilometre of roadway, park, street, lane in your local area and to make it litter and debris free. Louth and Meath County Councils will provide litter pickers, bags, gloves and hi-viz vests.
“The bags of waste will be collected when your clean-up is finished. Once you have registered you will be able to collect your free clean-up pack from V&W Drogheda Recycling Centre, Mell, Drogheda, who are supporting this initiative.
“I want to thank both Louth and Meath councils for embracing this idea and I would encourage as many people as possible to register. By getting involved it won’t be just about collecting litter, but a chance to bring us together and talk to one another about the issues affecting the area,” said Cllr McGinty.
