Arrangements announced for late Peter Burns

Funeral arrangements have been made for Dunboyne man Peter Burns, whose body was recovered in the Danish city of Aarhus earlier this week after a six week search.

The search for the 29-year-old chef came to a heartbreaking end on Monday with the recovery of his body in the harbour close to where he had last been seen on CCTV in the city of Aarhus.

A son of John and Jane Burns, Peter had been living in the Danish city for a number of months with his twin sister Katie. He was working as a chef in a restaurant there and was last seen on his way home from work on 5th December.

A celebration of Peter's life will take place next Friday, 28th January at 10am in the Victorian Chapel,Mount Jerome Crematorium, Harolds Cross, which can be viewed online at

Peter was born in Dublin and moved with his family to Dunboyne in 1999 where he attended the local primary school, followed by St Peters Secondary School.

"Peter moved to Denmark in October 2021 with his sister to gain international experience working as a chef. It was in Denmark he met with a tragic accident in early December 2021.

"Peter will be sorely missed by his wonderful friends and colleagues from the hospitality sector where he worked for many years as chef," his death notice on RIP.ie reads.

In a statement on its website on Monday, the Irish embassy in Denmark confirmed the sad news that Peter's remains has been recovered: “With sadness, the Danish police have confirmed the recovery of the remains of Irish citizen Peter Burns. Peter’s family and friends thank everyone for all their help during this difficult time. The Ambassador and all at the Embassy of Ireland wish to convey our sincere sympathies to Peter’s family and friends.”

Local councillor Damian O'Reilly has extended his deepest sympathy to Peter's family and all his friends around Dunboyne.
