Civic reception for victorious Meath Ladies on ice

The latest casualty of the Covid restrictions was a planned civic reception for the Meath Ladies football team which had been pencilled in for December by Meath County Council.

The reception was to be held in early December but was put off until the New Year. Depending on Covid restrictions, a new date for 2022 is planned.

The council has already held a reception for the Meath Minor GAA team to mark their winning of the All-Ireland Final.

Pending new advice from the Government on Covid precautions, all meetings of the county council, including municipal meetings will be held by Zoom.

Meath County Council are eager to honour the Meath Ladies for their amazing achievements in 2021 that saw them win the NFL Div 2 title before going on to lift the Brendan Martin Cup in their first year at senior since winning the All-Ireland IFC title in December 2020.

Meath's remarkable year has been recognised with numerous player-of-the-month awards for Vikki Wall, Emma Duggan and Maire O'Shaughnessy during their successful All-Ireland SFC campaign.

Duggan, Wall and O'Shaughnessy were also among the eight Meath players to pick up All-star awards, with Monica McGuirk, Emma Troy, Niamh O'Sullivan, Mary Kate Lynch and Aoibhin Cleary also honoured. Wall, Duggan and Troy were also nominated as Players' Player-of-the-Year, with Wall winning that accolade to add to her Player-of-the-match award from the All-Ireland final.

As well as those All-stars Meath were also nominated in several categories at the RTE Sports Awards with the team listed among the nominees for the Team of the Year prize. Eamonn Murray was nominated as Manager of the Year, while Wall was one of the overall Sports Person of the Year nominees and Duggan was in the running for the Young Sports Person of the Year.
