Fairyhouse issues statement on incident at racecourse today

Fairyhouse Racecourse has issued a statement saying that: “Following the running of the sixth race today, we are aware of an incident regarding a member of the general public. We identified the man, took his details and we removed him from the course. We will also be circulating his details to all relevant bodies.”

It is understood that a racegoer appeared to throw beer at a horse at the New Year’s Day meeting at Fairyhouse today.

The alleged incident occurred at the end of the 3.15pm Happy New Year From Tote.ie Beginners Chase as an attendee is seen throwing what appears to be a plastic cup filled with beer at third-placed Grand Paradis, a Gordon Elliott-trained horse.

Racing TV coverage showed the shocking incident live and as the footage circulated on social media in the aftermath, racing fans were outraged by the shameful act.
