Gardai following 'definite line of enquiry' in Balrath Woods knife attack case

Gardaí in Navan say they are following a definite line of enquiry into a stabbing incident in Balrath Woods on Sunday evening, 26th December 2021.

They are appealing for witnesses in relation to the serious assault that occurred in the area of Burtonstown to come forward.

The incident is believed to have occurred at approximately 8pm. A man, aged in his 40s, was in his car at this time when two males approached the vehicle and attacked him. The man received a number of stab wounds.

He later received treatment at Our Lady’s Hospital, Navan. His injuries are not believed to be life threatening.

Gardaí are asking for any person who may have witnessed this incident or who may have information to come forward. Gardaí are appealing to anyone who was near the entrance to Balrath Woods, Burtonstown, between 7.30 – 9pm on Sunday, 26th December 2021 and who may have noticed any persons or vehicles to contact investigating Gardaí.

Any road users who may have been passing the area at this time and who has dash-cam footage is also asked to make this available to Gardaí.

Balrath Woods is a very popular spot for walking and nature trails and can be used as an open classroom.

It was once part of the larger Somerville Estate, and is situated in the townlands of Burtonstown, (known locally for many generations as Knockcomra), Danestown and Flemingstown.

The wood has been leased by Coillte to The Tree Council and Meath County Council and can be used as an Open Classroom.
