Ratoath appoint Mayo legend as new manager

Ratoath have announced that former Mayo star David Brady will take over from Brian Farrell as the new manager of their senior football team for 2022.

The Quay Village man played against Meath in the 1996 All-Ireland SFC final in 1996 and won an All-Ireland SFC Club crown with his club Ballina Stephenites in 2005.

He also took charge of the Stephenites in 2012, but in recent years has been working as a pundit on Off The Ball on Newstalk radio.

Brady replaces former Meath forward Farrell who guided Ratoath to the Keegan Cup in 2020 after taking over from former Dublin goalkeeper Davy Byrne who led the club to the SFC title in 2019. Byrne has now taken over from interim manager Liam Harnan at Skryne.

Last year Brady took a unique step to tackle social isolation, brought on by the Covid-19 pandemic and the associated lockdowns, when he reached out to the many elderly and lonely people who were cocooning and spoke with them by phone providing a welcome relief to those who were most vulnerable to social isolation.

Ratoath have also appointed Michael Connolly to replace Brendan Doyle as their new senior hurling manager as they bid to claim that elusive jubilee Cup that evaded them this year when they lost out to Trim in the 2020 final and to Kiltale in the 2021 semi-finals.
