St Joseph’s Primary School pupils create a Christmas wonderland

The entire school community at St Joseph's Primary School, Mulhussey, Kilcock, has been spreading festive cheer creating a Christmas wonderland at the school with festive decorations and lights, as well as launching its advent calendar of kindness.

The school students' council started the ball rolling by deciding to decorate the outside of the school and were busy elves painting the windows of the school in festive scenes. Some of the parents then got together to create a Winter Wonderland with the students on the day of the Late Late Toy Show.

Ger Sadler, chairperson of the parents association said; "All of the items in the Winter Wonderland were either made or recycled from old decorations donated from parents. Many families donated beautiful foliage to create a woodland theme. The students of the school had a wonderful day doing all their craft activities and getting the school ready for the Toy Show.

"Each child brought in their favourite toy for Mulhussey's own Toy Show and Tell. A festive grant was given to the school from Meath County Council and that was used for outdoor lights which have really brightened up the outside of the school in the dark days of December."

On 1st December, the students put up an Advent Calendar of Kindness with a door being opened every day and an act of kindness being shared for all. Each day, four different children are picked as the lucky winners of the treats. The Elf on the Shelf has also arrived in the juniors and seniors infants class. "We are just so happy with how the school has embraced the festive season and all the fun and happiness that it can bring to our children.

“I can honestly say that even the introduction of the masks in school hardly even got noticed because there is such a fun buzz about the place and the children have just gone with it in a positive way," added Ger.
