Fog warning but bright day ahead with light rain

A 'Status Yellow' fog warning for Ireland has been issued by Met Éireann this morning.

The national weather forecaster warns: "Fog developing in some areas with reduced visibility leading to difficult travel conditions."

Issued at 05:35am this morning, it came into immediate effect and will remain in place until 9am later this morning.

The weather outlook for the day ahead says frost and fog will clear this morning, as winds increase, to leave a dry day with a mix of cloud and sunny spells for most. However, patchy light rain or drizzle will develop at times mostly along northwest and southern coasts. Highest temperatures of 6 to 10 degrees, in moderate to fresh southwest winds.

High pressure building from the southeast keeping conditions generally settled for the rest of the week.

Generally cloudy tonight with light patchy rain or drizzle pushing into the northwest in moderate to fresh southwesterly winds. Staying largely dry elsewhere with some clear spells in the south. Lowest temperatures of 5 to 9 degrees generally but under any clear spells and slacker winds away from the coasts in the south and east, temperatures will fall back to between 1 and 4 degrees with the chance of localised frost and fog.

Tomorrow (Wednesday) will be cloudy with outbreaks of rain developing over the northern half of the country. Staying drier with sunny spells in the south, with just patches of drizzle possible at times in southwest Munster. Highest temperatures of 8 to 11 degrees in mostly moderate southwest winds.

The rain and drizzle over the northern half of the country will gradually ease overnight on Wednesday as winds become light. Further south, clearer skies and light winds will allow patchy mist or fog to develop. Lowest temperatures of 6 to 9 degrees.

Thursday is expected to be a fairly cloudy day with limited bright spells, but generally dry and calm. Highest temperatures of 8 to 11 degrees in mostly light southerly breezes.

Largely cloudy for Friday and the weekend, but staying mainly dry although the odd spot of light rain or drizzle is possible. Generally light southerly winds with temperatures staying in the high single figures.
