Original 1916 Proclamation sells for €130,000 at Matthews of Kells
Kells-based Matthews Auctioneers had a strong end to the year with their Two-Day Antique Auction on 28th and 30th November.
Leading the sale was Lot number 937, an original Easter 1916 Proclamation which fetched €130,000 against an estimate of €120,000 - €180,000.
Overall there was healthy bidding across the board.
"However, brown furniture is still in the doldrums, especially when compared to prices achieved in the 1980s and 1990s," says Damian Matthews. "A great buying opportunity exists, for those with a house to furnish!"
