Convent Road CCTV cameras to be installed next year

CCTV cameras could be installed on Convent Road next year, a meeting of Navan Municipal Council heard last week

Cllr Francis Deane asked how soon would the system be up and running on Convent Road and pointed out that it had been used for dumping.

Cllr Yemi Adenuga complimented the work taking place on the road, but said the dumping was ridiculous.

The councillors were told a Part VIII planning application is being prepared for the Navan CCTV scheme which includes camera locations throughout Navan town and Johnstown, a number of which are located in the vicinity of Convent Road.

Subject to approval of the planning process, an application will be submitted to An Garda Síochána for approval of the scheme and it is hoped that the CCTV scheme will be completed during 2022.

Meanwhile, an alleyway in Ferndale, Navan will be closed after a seven year campaign by local residents.

At a meeting of Navan Municipal Council earlier this month, councillors agreed to close the alley which attracted a lot of anti-social behaviour to the estate.

There have been delays over the years because of questions over the ownership of the alley and access to utility services, but the meeting heard those issues had now been sorted.

However, Meath County Council’s Transportation section had been opposed to extinguishing the right of way through the alley.

Following the decision by the councillors, the Mayor, Cllr Padraig Fitzsimons said: “It has been a long wait for the residents – six or seven years.”
