Water restrictions in Trim tonight

Do Not Consume notice remains in Batterstown

Irish Water, working with Meath County Council, advise customers in Trim that essential night-time restrictions are required tonight to help Brayhill reservoir levels recover. These restrictions are necessary following a mechanical issue at Trim Water Treatment Plant. Works are ongoing to resolve the mechanical issue which is impacting one treatment stream. Other treatment streams are working effectively, however the production capacity has been reduced.

To help reservoir levels recover and maintain a sufficient water supply to homes and businesses during normal working hours, water supply will be turned off from 10pm tonight, Monday 22nd November until 5am tomorrow morning. The need for restrictions is being reviewed on a daily basis by Irish Water and Meath County Council. The following locations may be impacted by disruption to their supply; Trim; Knightsbrook; Scurlockstown; Effernock; Carberstown; Blackfriary; Crowpark; Clonbun; Rathmolyon; Summerhill and surrounding areas.

Typically it takes two to three hours following restoration time for normal supply to be fully restored to all areas but it is important to continue to follow the HSE guidance on hand-washing.

Michael Cunniffe, Irish Water said: “Irish Water understands the inconvenience these restrictions may cause. The night-time restrictions are necessary to ensure a daily water supply is available for residents and businesses for hygiene and other essential purposes. We are continuing to work to resolve the issues at the plant so that the plant can operate at full production capacity and we will continue to provide updates as the works progress. During the day time, we are appealing to customers to help conserve water by not running taps needlessly, taking showers instead of baths and to postpone using dishwashers and washing machines where possible. Further information on water conservation is available on our website at www.water/conserve”

Meanwhile, Irish Water and Meath County Council would like to remind customers supplied by Batterstown Public Water Scheme that the Do Not Consume Notice issued on Thursday 16th September remains in place until further notice.

The Do Not Consume Notice was placed as a precaution to protect approximately 96 customers as a result of elevated bromate levels in the water supply. Impacted customers have been directly notified.

Bottled water continues to be provided weekly to all affected properties in Batterstown and customers in this area are reminded that the tap water is not safe for consumption or the preparation of foods, but is safe for hygiene and use in washing machines and dishwashers. It is especially important that mains drinking water is not given to bottle fed infants.

Please note this is not a Boil Water Notice. Boiling the water will not reduce bromate levels and is therefore not a suitable measure to make the water safe to consume. Please continue to use the bottled water provided to your property.
